The 1960’s represents one of the most consequential decades in United States History. A period of monumental social and political change, it was an era that would alter virtually every aspect of American life for generations to come. Presentation, film, and classroom discussion will focus on the major events of the decade including Civil Rights movement as well as additional social movements, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. We will also profile the prominent men and women who shaped the history of this tumultuous period.

Instructor: Richard Carroll holds a Master’s Degree in United States history from George Mason University. He was an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College before relocating to Garrett County, MD, where he taught adult education classes at Garrett Community College. He also served for forty-two years as an Intelligence Officer within the U. S. Intelligence Community before retiring in 2005.
