The History of Maryland: Everything You Should Know – New!

Get ready to discover the state of Maryland in a new way! Our engaging discussions will include whether Maryland is a southern state with a northern sensibility, or a northern state with a southern sensibility, as well as the state’s unique history that makes it different from other original colonies. In this survey class, we will assess the factors, peoples, and communities that created today’s Old Line State while answering the question, Is Maryland really “America in Miniature”? Join us to learn the answer to this question and more!

Instructor: Mary Mannix, currently the Maryland Room Manager of the C. Burr Artz Public Library of the Frederick County Public Libraries, is very active in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC) and has been involved in the History Section of RUSA. Winner of the 2011 winner of the Genealogical Publishing Company Award, she was given the 2015 Martha Washington Medal from the Sergeant Lawrence Everhart Chapter of the Maryland Society of Sons of the American Revolution. Mary taught genealogy librarianship at the University of Maryland and public history courses at Hood College.
