New! Experience Food Philosophy of Michael Pollan
3 sessions, 11.5 hours
Have you ever heard the saying “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants” or noticed more people wanting to eat food from local farms? Americans’ ways of deciding what to eat have been changing and much of this change comes from an awareness of our food system and its environmental and health costs. Plenty of awareness has been raised by writer Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma and Food Rules. This three-part course will explore Pollan’s food philosophy through an exploration and discussion of his work during the first class and two field trips to local farms to see it in action. We’ll be visiting Rocklands Farm in Poolesville to learn about sustainable farming and Fox Haven Farm in Jefferson to learn about plant-based eating with a cooking lesson. Please note that the field trips will involve some walking; wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Insect repellent and sunscreen are also advised. All entry, cooking class fees, and transportation to the farms are included. This tour will utilize the FCC shuttle bus for transportation. No refunds after close of business 5/9.
