Are you ever skeptical of internet medical advice and TV drug company ads? Do you search for “Evidence Based Medicine,” presented so a layman can understand it? Welcome to “Are YOU Medically Curious?” The sessions are interactive, highlighted with Dr. R’s learning “toys”, and aimed at understanding your amazing body – when it works, and when it doesn’t.

Instructor: Dr. Larry Romane is board certified in Emergency Medicine and spent 35 years as an ER doctor. After retiring, he served as a physician volunteer at a free clinic for the uninsured. He’s the author of two medical books and loves teaching. His courses give current medical information at a high school reading level. Look for Dr. Romane’s book, R U Medically Curious? Topic #1: Exactly what is “Cancer?” Topic #2: America’s “Top 4 Cancers” – Breast, Lung, Prostate, and Colon Topic #3: Cancer Treatment – Surgery, Radiation, and Chemotherapy. Upon completion of this course, you will understand exactly what cancer is and why it’s become our #2 killer. You will know more about America’s “Top 4 Cancers” – Breast, Lung, Prostate, and Colon and why different therapies including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are needed for different types of cancer.

ILR839 Senior Eyes and Health Tips II
1 Session, 2 hours
In this combined course, learn basic eye anatomy to better understand eye problems like cataracts, glaucoma, and detached retina. Then learn tips for wound care at home, opening soda and medicine bottles, managing daily low backaches, trying to “multi-task,” and not losing your car in the parking lot.

ILR694 The Five Minute Physical Exam and Basic Lab Tests
1 Session, 2 hours
Why does the doctor do all that poking and prodding? Dr. Romane will demonstrate a brief head to toe physical exam (fully clothed, of course!) and review the more than 30 diseases it is designed to rule out. Learn about the new recommendations for measuring blood pressure and treating hypertension and discuss the three basic lab tests: Complete Blood Count, Metabolic Panel, and Urine Dipstick test.
