American Sign Language I & II

Learn basic conversational skills used in American Sign Language. Topics include basic grammar structure related to the exchange of personal information, introductions, negotiation with the environment, calendar, commands, and the deaf and hard-of-hearing culture. Learn basic survival signs through demonstration. Opportunities to practice your newly-acquired skills in class. The textbook, “A Basic Course in American Sign Language (ISBN 978-0932666420)” available for purchase in the FCC bookstore, is utilized in both American Sign Language I and American Sign Language II classes.

Instructor: Martha Pugh
Martha B. Pugh holds a master’s degree in Secondary Deaf Education from Gallaudet University and a bachelor’s degree in English Education from Boston University. She has over 20 years of experience in teaching Introductory ASL classes. Martha has also been working as an ASL interpreter for elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools for the past 22 years. She enjoys sharing her love of ASL with all ages.
