Learn the basic conversational skills used in American Sign Language. Topics include basic grammar structure related to the exchange of personal information, introductions, negotiation with the environment, calendar, commands, and the deaf and hard-of-hearing culture.

Please Note: The textbook utilized in this class, A Basic Course in American Sign Language (ISBN 978-0932666420), is available for purchase in the FCC bookstore located in the Student Center. This textbook is also utilized in the next level class, American Sign Language II.

Instructor: Martha B. Pugh holds a master’s degree in Secondary Deaf Education from Gallaudet University and a bachelor’s degree in English Education from Boston University. She has over 20 years of experience in teaching Introductory ASL classes.
